Meeting Minutes 28 May 2004

Author:
Autumn Cuellar (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
Collaborators:
Shane Blackett (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
David Bullivant (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
Matt Halstead (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
Peter Hunter (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
Poul Nielsen (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
David Nickerson (Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland)
Carey Stevens (ZEST Technology Group Ltd)

  • Autumn's update: Andrew Cantell has written a script to sync the developer and live servers. He's willing to set up a cron job to automatically update the live server nightly. The problem with this is that if there's a problem on the developer server, there's not really a way to detect it. Solution: Autumn, ask Andrew about giving other people permissions to run the syncing script themselves.

The BioUML group has an unstable version of the CellML plug-in running. Fedor was wondering if we would like a current version to test out, or if we wanted to wait until it's a bit more stable. Matt thinks it's their decision. David B and Poul suggest they try to implement the signal transduction models from the website.

  • Poul's update: Has anyone heard from Stephanie? No.

Has forgotten to mention that he contacted Andrew de Laix from Wolfram a few weeks ago. Andrew had indicated a few months ago that they were interested in enabling Mathematica to read CellML. Poul was touching base with Andrew to see where things stand.

  • Peter's update: Was distracted from the RoadMap. Throughout the week he has been discussing the RoadMap with Shane, Carey, Matt and Poul. Over the weekend he will properly format it. He'll send out the new draft on Monday. E-mail back comments before next Friday's meeting.

  • Matt's update: No major news. Meets with the visualization students on Monday. Mike Lovell-Smith is adding more classes (subcellular, lymphatic system).

  • Shane's update: Was forwarded e-mail from Nigel Lovell and Socrates Dokos (University of New South Wales group) that had an attached paper. The paper described a framework for storing data - Abstract Field Layer (AFL), which looks a bit like our computed variables, and Field Representation Language (FRL), which looks a bit like our FieldML. Shane thinks it's important that we work together not only on the standards but also on the code. They've been willing to collaborate. Peter agrees and mentions that Poul will meet with them in September at the EMBS meeting. Shane wonders if it's possible to meet with them before then, over here or in Sydney. Poul will e-mail them about possible meeting here in July, try to time it so it's in between semesters.
