Announcing the Transition to the CellML Specification Custodian Board
Rationale for the Transition
The new title and structure better reflect the critical function of providing long-term stewardship, stability, and preservation for the CellML Specification. By moving away from annual election cycles, the governance structure can focus heavily on continuous preservation and strategic guidance without the disruption of annual turnover. This change ensures that the integrity and longevity of the CellML standard remain paramount as the ecosystem matures.
Governance and Future Flexibility
Under the new self-sustaining model, Custodians will serve indefinite terms. Should a vacancy arise due to resignation or removal, the remaining board members will be responsible for appointing a replacement, based on the candidate's technical expertise and commitment to the CellML community.
Importantly, this model retains flexibility. If community requirements or the life cycle of the specification demand a more dynamic approach in the future, the Custodian Board holds the power to initiate a reversion back to an Elected Editorial Board. Any such change will involve a formal community consultation via the cellml-discussion@cellml.org mailing list.
