ABI CellML Meeting Minutes, 30th of March, 2011

Present: Andrew Miller, Dougal Cowan, David "Andre" Nickerson, Randall Britten, Tommy Yu

Apologies: Poul Nielsen, Peter Hunter

This week's agenda:

1) Workshop update (Andre)

Progress:

  • Andre: starting to plan the programme for the workshop. The most requested (by 2 registrants) is CellML/FieldML with CMISS. Chris is available on day 2 to give a presentation. Vijay is happy to give a progress report on his work. Harvey & Hanne are going to give a talk on their liver models. Alan can give an OpenCOR update, either via EVO or by providing a talk for someone else to present.

Discussion:

  • Andre: There is some interest in Java in Windows, could a tutorial be given?
  • There was a discussion about how to run any possible tutorial(s).
  • Randall: how many registrants? Andre: 16, with 2 from overseas.
  • Andrew: it probably makes sense to reduce the number of talks, and to focus on workshops or hackathon style sessions.
  • Andre: most talk will be user talks about current use of CellML in the ABI.
  • There was a discussion about other possible workshop topics.

Planning:

  • Andre: will put together a draft programme.
  • Andre: how will we fund morning/afternoon teas, and will they be required? It was agreed that Andre will ask Peter about this.
  • There was a discussion about the balance of the workshop content between the CellML team and other attendees.

2) Repository contributions - update

Progress:

  • Tommy: Catherine has been fixing up a hepatology model on which she was an author.

3) PMR2 development - update

Progress:

  • Tommy: tidying up loose ends to get to version 0.4.
  • Tommy: the full mathematics view requires the API, which is taking more time than anticipated.
  • Tommy: head revision: fixed security risk from HTML content from workspacesfor most browsers, ignoring IE6.  Fix still to be deployed.
  • Tommy: working on workarounds for Zope version issues.

Discussion:

  • There was a discussion about use of the API to provide the maths view, and why it is currently unusable.

4) CellML core specs - update

Progress:

  • Randall: part way through reading Andrew's draft thesis chapters on ModML.

Discussion:

  • It was decided to cancel today's standard 1.2 spec breakaway.

5) CellML API - update

Progress:

  • Andrew: xpath additions committed to a branch. The non-xpath branch is being used to work on the build system. The build system has been cleaned up, OpenCell has been removed. When adding snapshots, binaries will also be added now.

Discussion:

  • Randall: would a Python egg be convenient for Tommy?
  • Tommy: yes.
  • There was a discussion about how to provide the API in a way that is useful for Tommy in PMR2.
  • A breakaway was called to discuss the API/PMR2 issues. (Tommy, Andrew, Randall to attend)
  • Randall: how is progress going on a binary release?
  • Andrew: just a case of getting the build system going properly.
  • There was a discussion of build system issues.
  • Andrew: it might be possible to move to CMAKE.
  • There was a discussion of what is holding up the binary release, and which of fixing or removing the Java bindings would be the best option.
  • Andre: the binaries need to be released with user documentation.

Planning:

  • Randall: initially the binaries can be released before the documentation is written, but after that the docs should be kept up to date for future releases.
  • Andrew: Doxygen output will however be released at same time as binaries.
